What is Endometriosis?

The abnormal growth of endometrial cells outside the uterus is called endometriosis. The endometrial cells make the inside of the uterus. Mostly it is found on the other pelvic organs.
Endometriosis is a painful, chronic disease that affects   millions of women and girls all over the   world every year. The bladder, bowel, vagina, cervix, vulva, and the abdominal surgical scars are the other sites for the growth of endometrial growth. They may also grow in the lungs, arms, thigh and in other regions but very rare.

The interesting thing is this that the abnormal grown tissue react in the same way during menstruation as the actual lining of the uterus do during the menstrual cycle in females.

What is Endometriosis

Every month the tissues undergoes building, break downing and shedding. The normal mechanism is this that the menstrual blood and other bodies come out from the uterus by the vagina but in the case of endometriosis they do not have any pathway to come out and leave the uterus. Then this thing cause internal bleeding, breakdown of blood, tissue lesions and inflammation. This leads to the pain, infertility, scar tissue formation, adhesions and bowel problems.

Types of Endometriosis

The endometriosis is classified into four classes based on the extent; location and depth of the outgrowths. Here are the classes of endometriosis as followings:
  • Minimal endometriosis.
  • Mild Endometriosis .
  • Moderate endometriosis .
  • Severe  endometriosis .
Most cases of this disease are mild or minimal because of the mild scar and superficial implants. Moderate and severe endometriosis may result into the cysts and more severe scaring. The degree of symptoms a women shows and the stage of endometriosis are not related but infertility is common in stage 4.

Mostly it is found in infertile women as compared to the fertile women but the endometriosis does not causes the infertility. Mostly the women having endometriosis do not show any sign and symptom but sometime they may show following signs and symptoms:

Pelvic pain that is increased during the menstruation
·         Painful intercourse
·         Painful urination during urination
·         Painful bowel movements
·         Infertility
·         Pain before and during periods

In addition the women suffering with endometriosis may also suffer from :

Allergies, chemical sensitivities and frequent yeast infections.

It is an important note that the pelvic pain is the symptom of the endometriosis but the normal women may also show the symptom of pelvic pain during menstruation and ovulation.

Endometriosis and infertility:

Severe pain and fertility problems are related with the endometriosis. About 30 % to 40 % women having endometriosis have troubles in conceiving. The Reason is not know but this is a fact. Scarring of the reproductive tract or hormonal factors may be involved in the endometriosis. Over time endometrial implants may develop, or cysts may result because of this disease, which also may produce fertility problems in women.

Diagnosis:

Diagnosis of this disease is thought to be undertrained until laparoscopy tells about it. Laparoscopy is a minor surgical technique which is performed after giving anesthesia. The location, size, and extent of the growths can be diagnosed by the help of this technique. This process aids the physician and patient makes better treatment choices for the disease
